We should not pretend an effective remedy along such lines will be achieved either effortlessly or quickly, but neither should we be content to suppose the problem will simply vanish. Maybe above all, we should not imagine for an instant that doing nothing will result in anything other than further harsh lessons and, perhaps just as damagingly, the renewed erosion of consumer trust.
