Mr Cholwill says: “Certainly last year was quite a tricky year to navigate, in many ways. Mine’s been a multi-cap approach for a number of years, so the fund had around 40 per cent in mid cap last year and a lot of people with significant mid-cap weightings had a tough year last year.
“I look for companies that are going to deliver sustainable dividend growth, dividends that are backed by cashflow, and I think that’s continued to pay off.”
Saying investors should “look through the noise”, he adds: “Successful investment often does take a number of years to come through.”
